What are sports court and muga markings?

A sports court marking sets out the lines of a game, netball, basketball, tennis or a multi-use games area, in hard-wearing thermoplastic so PE and clubs have a proper court to play on. A MUGA layers more than one sport into the same footprint using different colours, which is how a single yard ends up serving netball, basketball and a five-a-side pitch. We mark to recognised court dimensions where the space allows, and scale a compact version in where it does not, so schools with tight yards still get a usable court.

How the work goes

Survey, design, install and aftercare, and most of it is ours to do.

Survey
We measure the usable area and note the gradient, drainage and any obstacles, then work out which courts fit properly and where the lines can overlap without confusing players.

Design
You get a scaled court plan with the colour for each sport marked, so PE staff can check the layout and dimensions before we lay a line.

Install
We prep the surface and apply the thermoplastic lines to the agreed setout. A single court usually goes down in a day; a full MUGA takes a little longer.

Aftercare
Courts are playable once the lines have cooled. We can add a sport, extend a court or refresh worn lines on a return visit as your PE needs change.

What do sports court and muga markings cost?

A single scaled court, netball or basketball, commonly falls somewhere around £900 to £2,500 fitted, and a multi-sport MUGA layout costs more because there are more lines and colours to lay. Price turns on the size of the court, the number of sports and the state of the surface, so we survey the area and give you a fixed quote rather than a guess.

Sports court and MUGA markings: your questions answered

Can you fit a full-size court in our playground?

Where there is room we mark to recognised court dimensions. Where the yard is tight we scale the court down so it still plays sensibly and safely, and we will tell you honestly at survey which sports fit properly and which are better as a compact version.

What is a MUGA marking?

A multi-use games area layers more than one sport, for example netball, basketball and a small pitch, into the same footprint using different line colours. It is the most efficient way to get a full PE programme out of a single yard, and we colour-code it so players can pick out their court at a glance.

Do the court lines meet a governing-body standard?

We set out courts to the recognised dimensions and line widths of each sport wherever the space allows, which suits school PE, clubs and friendly matches. For formal competition venues we will confirm the exact standard you need at survey and mark to it.
