What are playground marking removal?

Marking removal is the controlled lifting of old or unwanted thermoplastic and paint from the playground surface, so a tired yard can be redesigned from a clean base. Over years, markings fade, layouts date and priorities change, and a new scheme laid straight over the old one never looks right. We remove the redundant markings with methods chosen to protect the tarmac underneath, then the surface is ready for us to mark out fresh, which is how a worn-out playground gets a genuine new start.

Why schools choose them

A genuinely clean start

Lifting the old markings first means the new design goes onto a clear surface and looks sharp, instead of ghosting over a faded layout.

Careful with the surface

We match the removal method to the surface so the tarmac underneath is protected, rather than chewed up in the process.

Clears what no longer fits

Dated layouts, retired sports lines or markings from a previous use can be taken out, so the yard reflects how the school works now.

How the work goes

Survey, design, install and aftercare, and most of it is ours to do.

  1. 01

    Survey

We look at what needs to come up and the surface it sits on, then choose the removal method that clears the markings while protecting the tarmac beneath.

  2. 02

    Design

We agree exactly what stays and what goes, so nothing you want to keep is lifted, and plan the work around access to the site.

  3. 03

    Install

Our team removes the markings on site with the agreed method, keeping the area tidy and clearing away the debris as we go.

  4. 04

    Aftercare

Once the surface is clear it is ready to be marked out fresh, and we can move straight into installing your new scheme on the same or a later visit.

What do playground marking removal cost?

Removal is usually priced by the area to be cleared and how the markings are bonded, so a few redundant graphics cost far less than clearing a whole yard. It is often combined with a fresh install, which is the most cost-effective way to do it. Because it depends on what is down and the surface underneath, we survey the yard and give you a fixed quote.

Playground marking removal: your questions answered

Can you remove old markings without damaging the tarmac?

That is the aim, and it is why we survey first. We match the removal method to how the markings are bonded and to the surface underneath, so the tarmac is protected rather than damaged. Where a surface is already fragile we will tell you honestly what to expect before we start.

Do we need to remove old markings before new ones go down?

Often, yes. Faded or dated markings ghost through a new design laid straight over them, so lifting the redundant ones first gives a clean base and a sharper finish. We can remove just the markings that need to go and keep any you still want.

Can removal and a new design be done together?

Yes, and it usually makes sense to. Clearing the old markings and marking out the new scheme in one project is the most cost-effective approach and gets the yard back to full use faster. We plan both stages around your school day.
